UTICA, N.Y. — As a retired Member of Congress who had the privilege of representing so much of Central New York for 24 years, I know a little something about the job and what it takes to serve effectively. That’s why I’m proud to endorse Richard Hanna for re-election in the 22nd Congressional District.
Washington is more divided today than ever. That’s why we need to elect leaders who are interested in seeking solutions and common ground in the interest of all Americans. I know, respect and admire Richard Hanna. He is one of the few in Washington who don’t view those in “the other party” as the enemy, but rather as potential allies.
Richard Hanna works to find the best ideas, no matter their source. In a short time he has proven his leadership by having three bills signed into law by President Obama. That required bipartisan support from the Republican House and Democrat Senate and he got it.
They call him Congressman, but as Richard reminds people, the real title of his job is Representative. Daily, his several offices and highly professional staff work tirelessly with him to provide constituent service second to none. His is a voice for those who need assistance in solving a Social Security or Medicare problem, obtaining earned and deserved veteran’s benefits or cutting through the red tape in dealing with a federal agency.
Richard Hanna is doing the job he was sent to do and doing it exceptionally well. At a time when so many in the nation’s Capitol seem to be out for themselves, the 22nd District has a Representative who is out for the people. He deserves to be returned and I proudly support him.
Sherwood Boehlert, Member of Congress (Ret.)
U.S. House of Representatives 1983-2007
