Former NYC Mayor Koch declares
Hanna a ‘Hero’ in reform efforts

August 6, 2010

Arcuri silent on NY Uprising movement

SYRACUSE – Richard Hanna and former New York City Mayor Ed Koch are on a mission to reform New York.

Koch is in Syracuse today and has traveled through Upstate New York this week highlighting the efforts of his independent and nonpartisan reform group – NY Uprising. One issue NY Uprising is calling for is an independent, nonpartisan commission to draw redistricting in the state next year.

I applaud Richard Hanna as a “Hero of Reform” for signing the New York Uprising pledge on legislative redistricting,” said Koch, founder of NY Uprising. “This year voters are counting on candidates to commit to specific reforms in advance, as Richard has done. I look forward to working with him to see them swiftly implemented should he be elected.”

Rothenberg ’tilts’ race in favor of Hanna

July 20, 2010

Race a ‘top opportunity’ in New York State

The nonpartisan Rothenberg Political Report Monday released new analysis moving the race for the 24th Congressional District seat in favor of Richard Hanna.

The rating was upgraded from ‘Pure Toss-Up’ to ‘Toss-Up/Tilt Republican.’

Hanna, who will run on the Republican, Independence and Conservative lines, outraised incumbent Michael Arcuri both the first and second quarters of this year. Hanna announced his campaign on Jan. 20 – losing valuable time in the first fundraising quarter – and still outraised his opponent nearly two-to-one.

Elections expert Stuart Rothenberg’s report is subscription-only.

Here is the analysis for New York’s 24th Congressional District:

NY 24 (Arcuri, D): “Michael Arcuri’s narrow 51%-49% win over Richard Hanna in ’08 was a surprise, and Hanna is back for a re-match. This looks to be one of the GOP’s top two opportunities in the Empire State, and the state’s Working Families Party apparently won’t endorse Arcuri as a punishment for his vote against the Democratic health care plan.”

Washington Post: Arcuri likely out in November

May 15, 2010

The Washington Post Friday ranked the top 30 House races likely to switch parties this November, and Michael Arcuri made the list at No. 16.

The Post noted the lack of people investing in Arcuri’s campaign, and the close race he had two years ago against self-made businessman Richard Hanna. (more…)

Right Vote, Wrong Reasons

Hanna: Bill leaves out important provisions

Congressional candidate Richard Hanna today called on voters to see through the political opportunism of Michael Arcuri’s vote last night against the health-care bill.

“The voters are not so naive to think that Mr. Arcuri’s vote is a profile in courage,” Hanna said. “He was simply given a pass by his party’s leadership based on his performance in his last election.”
Hanna pointed out that Arcuri’s November vote in favor of government-run health care enabled this process. Arcuri cannot distance himself from taking responsibility for the passage of last night’s bill. (more…)

Hanna disappointed over health care approval
Bill won’t improve care, will only add to spending

March 21, 2010

Arcuri should be held accountable

Tonight, the House of Representatives failed Americans everywhere by approving a flawed bill that increases costs while doing nothing to improve the quality of our health care system, Congressional candidate Richard Hanna said Sunday evening.

“It is an outright lie to say that this bill will save our nation money,” Hanna said. “Taxes would be collected immediately, yet new spending would be deferred for years. A decade of taxing would cover just six years of spending.” (more…)

Hanna to Arcuri: Vote down health care bill

March 15, 2010

In November, Mike Arcuri voted for the House health care plan. Now, over the last few weeks he has wavered back and forth on whether or not he will vote for the Senate version. He had said he would vote against the Senate version, but now says he is undecided.

This is not leadership; it is unprincipled politics of the worst kind.

Congressional candidate Richard Hanna today called on Arcuri to vote against the bill.

“While I believe this country is in desperate need of health care reform, this is not the way forward,” Hanna said. “Mr. Arcuri should vote against it and say it now. He should stop playing political games. The nationalized health care plan is poorly conceived and wrong for Upstate New York. It creates more government, adds more debt and does nothing to improve the quality of health care.”

Hanna continued, “The bill is loaded with special pork barrel provisions and deals for states like Nebraska. Mr. Arcuri – on this one just say ‘no’ and say it now.”

ARCURI FLIP-FLOPS OUT OF BED – DECIDES TO VOTE ‘NO’ ON HEALTH CARE

March 2, 2010

UTICA – Three months ago, U.S. Rep. Michael Arcuri voted in favor of Nancy Pelosi’s government-run health care legislation.

Today, following the footsteps of the famous flip-flopper John Kerry, Mr. Arcuri decided he will now vote against it (Gymburch, March 1, 2010, Rome Daily Sentinel).

Perhaps Mr. Arcuri said it best when he told WKTV NewsChannel 2 in Utica:

“I go to bed one night and I say, ‘I am going to support it,’ and I wake up and read some more things and say, ‘Geez, I don’t know if I can support this thing,’” Arcuri said. (Bailey, Sept. 18, 2009, WKTV) (more…)

Stimulus money flows to communities… overseas?

February 12, 2010

More than a year after the U.S. House of Representatives passed an $819 billion stimulus bill, new analysis shows that nearly 80 percent of funding for renewable energy continues to go overseas.

Richard Hanna, congressional candidate in New York’s 24th District, today said it’s unfathomable that American tax dollars can be allocated to jumpstart alternative energy jobs in foreign countries. (more…)
